Ukrainian refugee crisis was caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and began with the invasion of Russian troops on February 24, 2022.
According to UNHCR data by April 12, 2022 over 4,656,509 people has left Ukraine of which 2,669,637 went to Poland, 434,342 to Hungary, 323,020 to Slovakia, 415,850 to Moldova, 709,249 to Romania, rest to other countries. Only a small part of refugees applied for refugee in Moldova and Romania – most indicated Poland as their destination country.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees projects that on the European Union territory will soon be between 2.5 and 6.5 million and perhaps even 7 million, refugees from Ukraine, mostly women and children. There are many indications that these people will mostly decide to stay in Poland.
